Sand City, Cal. At the end of Tioga Ave.
Sand City use to be a major processor of Sand--Thus the name. It was also where the County dump was. Sand City is contiguous with the city of Monterey and Fort Ord. It runs along the coast and is about the size of Monaco. Population wise it is the smallest city in Monterey County with about 150 residents and is the 2nd smallest city in Calif. However, because of the two shopping centers in town, one includes a cost-co, they bring in more tax revenue than the other cities (I believe with all of the developement in Marina that the #1 place may have been surpassed.)
Thirty-years ago I rented a small WW2 era beach bungaloo about a mile from where I am standing. When we moved there people would wrinkle their nose and say, "You're living at the dump?" We didn't live at the dump, the dump had been moved long before that, we lived in Sand City. We loved this small community and my X-husband has been on the city council since 1988. He will retire this year.
Now Sand City is known as an artists community.
